New section about polymorphs
[edit]I added a new section about the three crystal polymorphs of Calcium carbonate, mainly because I wanted to compare the three and talk about their differences. I talk about structure and their occurences in nature. Maybe this section could be combined with the others ? like the structure section ? I didn't really want to modify others' sections so i created a new one. Also English is not my first language, sorry for any typos. I think I'm a banana tree (talk) 20:26, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
What is the Mass Of Carbonate Rocks on Earth ?
[edit]You can Use the Mass of the Carbon Dioxide on Venus to Calculate the Mass of the Carbonate Rocks on Earth. Venus Atmosphere is around 96 % CO2, and it never formed Carbonate rocks. Earth is a little bit bigger, so you have to apply Mass of the Earth divide by Mass of Venus as a ratio. You also apply Chemistry as Calcium Carbonate,( Limestone ), and Magnesium Carbonate ( Dolomite ) are significantly heavier than CO2. When you get to the End, the mass of carbonate rocks is very close to 0.019 % of the mass of the Earth. Taking 0.00019 X 5.97352 ^ 24 kg = 1.135 ^ 21 kg of Carbonate rocks on Earth. The Vast majority of Carbonate rocks are on top of continents , not in the oceans, perhaps over 90 % are atop the continents.
Only a small percentage of reefs are around islands, and around Australia. The Water levels atop continents peaked in elevation around 82 Ma, and had left the continents by around 70 Ma. Reefs only form is shallow Marine environments, not in deep marine environments, and not on continents when the water is gone. The amount of time where life was forming lots of carbonate rocks on Earth was this side of 630 Ma to around 70 Ma. ( 630 -70 ) / 630 = 0.889. So around 88.9 % of the Carbonate rock forming time periods, the water was atop the continents. 11.1 % of the time, all that was left were the deep ocean basins , some islands, and Australia's barrier reef. 71.237.49.100 (talk) 18:10, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
